A sessions court today convicted a man for killing a 53-year-old woman and her granddaughter and stealing gold ornaments worth Rs 3.60 lakh.
Judge M S Azmi held Vishal Shrivastav (28) guilty of the crime.
The arguments on the sentence is likely to begin from April 16.
On June 3, 2011, the bodies of Ranjana Nagotkar and her granddaughter Vaishali (3) were found, with their throats slit, in their flat in Antop Hill area here.
Gold ornaments worth Rs 3.60 lakh and Rs 3,500 in cash were missing from the flat.
Nagotkar's daughter Sheetal and son-in-law Santosh Railkar were away at work when the incident took place.
Police said Shrivastav, who lived in a rented flat nearby, had killed the two after an earlier plan, of lacing their milk with poison (a dead lizard) on June 2, did not work.
Shrivastav aroused suspicion when he was seen leaving the area in a saree, but he told police that he was a homosexual and was going to CSMT to meet a partner.
He was arrested in October, 2011 from Kanpur following police investigations.
Police said Shrivastav, who has a degree in hotel management, wanted to splurge at bars and buy expensive clothes and jewellery.
