A 36-year-old man died after he was attacked by a herd of elephants in Latehar district, police and forest officials said on Wednesday.
Bandhan Ganju suffered serious injuries when he tried to chase the herd at Bakru village on Tuesday night, Balumath police station in-charge Subhas Paswan said.
The villager was taken to a community health centre, from where he was referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi, 120 km from here.
He died on way to the hospital, Paswan said.
Forest Ranger P P Sahu said that Rs 25,000 has been given to the family of the deceased to perform the last rites.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
