The accused - Manohar Kamble demanded Rs three lakh on behalf of Talasari tehsildar from the complainant for doing his work related to a land matter, said Balkrishna Sawant, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Thane unit, ACB.
Kamble had already accepted part payment of Rs 40,000 from the complainant on December 15 and was repeatedly asking for the balance amount, he said.
Police said initially Kamble demanded Rs six lakh but then settled for Rs three lakh which was supposed to be given to some officials including the tehsildar in neighbouring Palghar district.
A case under relevant sections of Preventions of Corruption Act was registered in this regard, the officer said, adding investigations are underway.
