A Keralite, who is presently in the Gulf, has landed in trouble after he inadvertently applied for an Aadhaar ID card for his pet - a Persian cat to be taken to that country.
The man was reportedly told that he would have to apply for an ID card for his pet following which he promptly approached an Akshay kendra in Kasaragod seeking an ID card for his pet cat, police said.
While the Aadhaar application form had the photo of the Persian cat, the name and address was that of the owner, Azeez Abdullah. The application was processed through an Akshay kendra in the district and sent.
Investigations began after Kerala police received a complaint from Bengaluru Regional Aadhaar Card Additional Director, D M Gujral, during scrutiny of the application.
Cases have been registered against the Akshay kendra owner and Abdulla under IPC sections 465 (punishment for forgery) and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), police said.
Kerala IT Mission Director K Mohammed Y Safirulla told PTI that Akshay Kendra's permit has been cancelled after UIDAI forwarded the complaint.
"We had received a complaint from UIDAI. An enquiry was conducted and the complaint was found genuine following which the agency's permit was cancelled," he said.
The Police officer investigating the case said Abdullah was expected to arrive in Kerala on July 30 after which he would be questioned.
Aadhaar, the world's largest biometric ID system, serves as a proof of identity and address anywhere in the country.
