The man was reportedly told that he would have to apply for an ID card for his pet following which he promptly approached an Akshay kendra in Kasaragod seeking an ID card for his pet cat, police said.
While the Aadhaar application form had the photo of the Persian cat, the name and address was that of the owner, Azeez Abdullah. The application was processed through an Akshay kendra in the district and sent.
Cases have been registered against the Akshay kendra owner and Abdulla under IPC sections 465 (punishment for forgery) and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), police said.
Kerala IT Mission Director K Mohammed Y Safirulla told PTI that Akshay Kendra's permit has been cancelled after UIDAI forwarded the complaint.
"We had received a complaint from UIDAI. An enquiry was conducted and the complaint was found genuine following which the agency's permit was cancelled," he said.
The Police officer investigating the case said Abdullah was expected to arrive in Kerala on July 30 after which he would be questioned.
