Police said the bus was ferrying the force personnel for election duty when it knocked down the 56-year-old man who was riding a bi-cycle early this morning.
The deceased has been identified and he was on his way to Sitamarhi town, deputy superintendent of police Roshan Kumar said.
Angry locals blocked NH 104 after the incident and demanded that the district magistrate announce compensation for the bereaved family.
The blockade was later lifted following an assurance given by the officials that the demand would be met as per law after the assembly election.
