A man allegedly strangulated his mentally unstable 32-year-old son before committing suicide by hanging himself at his residence here, police said today.
Shakti Prasad Acharya, who had recently taken voluntary retirement from government service, was troubled over his son Bidhu Bhusan Acharya's long mental illness and took the extreme step yesterday, a police officer said.
He strangulated his son with a rope while he was asleep before hanging himself from the ceiling of his room by the same rope in the morning hours, he said.
Police recovered a suicide note saying that he had killed his son and also taken his own life as he was unable to sustain the pressure of his son remaining in a state of depression for several years.
