Shakti Prasad Acharya, who had recently taken voluntary retirement from government service, was troubled over his son Bidhu Bhusan Acharya's long mental illness and took the extreme step yesterday, a police officer said.
He strangulated his son with a rope while he was asleep before hanging himself from the ceiling of his room by the same rope in the morning hours, he said.
Police recovered a suicide note saying that he had killed his son and also taken his own life as he was unable to sustain the pressure of his son remaining in a state of depression for several years.
