27-year-old Thotrei Muivah allegedly shot dead his younger brother at a place in Ukhrul district yesterday, the police said.
Muivah used his 12 bore licensed gun to shoot his younger brother Ngamlei Muivah (18) from point blank range that hit him on his abdomen following which he succumbed to his injuries.
The incident happened at New Cannan in Ukhrul district around 10.30 PM, the police said.
Though the body of the victim has been claimed by family members after autopsy was conducted at JNIMS yesterday, the culprit is on the run and yet to be arrested though a case has been registered against him at Litan Police Station.
Elsewhere in the state, a major scuffle broke out between two groups at the premise of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) after autopsy of a deceased woman was carried out yesterday without the presence of maternal family members of the victim Mutum Anjali who allegedly hung herself to death on April 23 at Yumrembam in Imphal East district.
The scuffle occurred between the side of the husband's family of the 21-year-old deceased woman and the maternal family members along with their supporters, numbered around 50 persons, who claimed foul play over the death.
The side of maternal family of the victim also refuted the claim of the husband's family who said the victim was found hung to death in her room.
The matter is yet to be resolved, the police said.
