According to senior official, raid was conducted after a tip off that a man was illegally transporting a consignment of Oxytocin injections via Patna-Delhi train.
"Our team conducted a raid along with Delhi police and seized 61 cartons of Oxytocin injection. A man was arrested and he could not produce license and documents of the medicine. Cost of injections is approximately Rs 12 lakh," a senior officer said.
Oxytocin injection, which causes harmful effects on humans as well as livestock, is allegedly used to extract milk from milch animals.
"During the interrogation he told that he used to procure the injection from Patna and used to sell it to dealers here. We are yet to identify buyers and soon they will be arrested," a senior police officer said.
An FIR has been registered at New Delhi railway station under sections of Drug and Cosmetic Act 1940, he added.
Under the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, oxytocin is a Schedule-H drug and is required to be supplied on the prescription of a registered medical practitioner only. The formulation of oxytocin injection is required to be packed in single unit blister packet to avoid its misuse.
