A 45-year-old man, who faced several criminal cases, was shot dead by two unidentified assailants at the gates of Sub-Divisional Magistrate's (SDM) office here on Monday evening, police said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Sanghi said the man, identified as Sanjiv Dabade aka Golu, was shot dead by the assailants when he was coming out of the SDM office at around 5 pm.
Sanghi said Golu, who died on the spot in the attack, had several criminal cases, including that of a murder, pending against him in the city.
Since he was a habitual offender, he had to visit the SDM office every Monday to register his weekly attendance, the SP said.
The police have registered a murder case and launched a search for the assailants, he said.
