Ravi Verma (25), a resident of Shahdara, had allegedly abducted the son of a Gandhinagar resident Khairul on April 16 last year and had demanded a ransom of Rs 4 lakhs, police said.
"The accused had also threatened to kill the boy if Khairul failed to pay the ransom amount after which following later had lodged a complaint.
"We have launched a probe and as pressure mounted over Verma, he abandoned the boy at Loni Road near Shahdara in Delhi and fled away. The boy was recovered the same day," said a senior police official.
During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused had invested a huge amount in trading of gold and had also taken loan.
"But he could not repay his debt due to loss in business and thus had kidnapped the boy to get money," they said.
