A man was arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend after she threatened to expose their relationship to his wife, police said Thursday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (City) Dharmendra Chauhan said the mother of the woman had on October 19 filed a complaint regarding the disappearance her daughter at Kotwali G T Road police station here.
After a detailed investigation, a man, identified as Deepak, of Garhi Katiyya village of the Loni area here was arrested from his house Wednesday, he said.
Deepak, while confessing to the crime, said he had met the woman at a discotheque and became friends with her, the SP said.
After a few days the girl began demanding money from him and threatened she will expose their relationship to his wife if he failed to do so, Chauhan said.
Deepak planned to eliminate her and took her to Mangalore town near Haridwar in Uttarakhand on September 29. He strangled her and threw the body in a canal, he said.
The body was recovered next day by the Uttarakhand Police from the canal after some passersby informed it, the SP said.
Following his arrest, Deepak has been been sent to jail, Chauhan said.
