Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed concerns on Friday over the declining sex ratio and female foeticide in the state and said that his government will bring in a stringent law to tackle the situation.
Speaking at a function on the occasion of the National Girl Child Day, he said stringent measures to check female foeticide and abortion based on sex determination, needs to be implemented.
He said legal experts will be consulted and necessary legislation may be introduced in the upcoming Budget session.
Governor Najma Heptulla urged people to "recommit to support every girl to develop her skills, enter the workforce on equal terms and reach her full potential".
"We need to equip girls with transferable and lifelong skills such as critical thinking, creativity and digital awareness," she said.
