The Unified CPN-Maoist today imposed a shutdown in Kathmandu and other major cities of Nepal to protest the arrest of a party cadre accused of murdering a teenage schoolboy.
Though the party had called a day-long general strike, it was forced to cut short the protest after people began defying the bandh.
The bandh was called after the arrest of the UCPN-Maoist cadre was arrested from Kathmandu yesterday in connection with the 2004 murder of 16-year-old Krishna Prasad Adhikari.
Nanda Prasad Adhikary and Ganga Maya, the parents of the murdered boy, are on fast-unto-death for more than a month demanding legal action against the culprits involved in the murder.
The UCPN-Maoist also demanded the cadre be immediately released.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has summoned Maoist chief Prachanda for his derogatory remarks against the court while defending the arrested party cadre.
