MBA graduate held for duping women on matrimonial sites

A 35-year-old man, a qualified MBA, has been arrested for allegedly cheating women through leading matrimonial sites in Delhi and Mumbai of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of marriage, police said today.
The accused, identified as Gaurav Joshi, used to register himself on leading matrimonial sites with fake names and details, and target people, said a senior police official.
Joshi is a resident of west Delhi's Janakpuri area.
His activities came underthe scanner when a complaint was lodged against him at Janakpuri police station.
According to the complainant, Joshi improsonated as British national named Dr Rohan Munjal, who claimed to have seen his daughter's profile on a leading matrimonial site, contacted them, police said.
After taking the family into confidence, the accused told them that his parents were against the marriage and had disowned him. He then asked the complainant to deposit Rs 13 lakh, apparantely as dowry, in the account of the Gaurav Joshi, police said.
As soon as the family transferred money, the accused changed his contact number and could never be reached again, police said.
Based on the information recovered from the bank account in which the money was transferred, a special police team was sent to Mumbai, which apprehended the accused from Bhangur Nagar area, police said.
During interrogation the accused confessed to his involvement in several cases of cheating and said he was earlier arrested in four such cases registered in Delhi and Mumbai.
