Media is accountable to its readers and viewers: Imtizumzuk

Media must realise that it should always remain accountable to its readers and viewers, said Nagaland Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Public Relations (IPR), Imtizumzuk.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the National Press Day celebration on the theme "Upholding journalistic ethics during elections" in Mokokchung district today.
The celebration was jointly organised by Directorate of IPR and the three Press Clubs of Nagaland Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung.
Imtikumzuk said the influence, credibility and quality of the media is well recognised, and the state media has grown in scale and has become a powerful means for shaping the ideas, aspirations and behaviour of the people, even in the remotest corners.

He said journalists must act as a watchdog of public interest, and give voice to the marginalised.
"We must shape and influence public opinion even as they provide objective and balanced coverage of news," he added.
He called upon all the media fraternity to carry out their duties with an unbiased attitude and report events as they are, so as to promote a healthy atmosphere in the society.
