The party also exuded confidence that the poll results would throw up "surprising results" in its favour in Gujarat, which is being ruled by the BJP for over two decades.
"Are you having polls in Gujarat for the first time? Why has the Gujarat election suddenly become so paramount for the government? This is absolutely Tughlaqi adhocism," Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters here.
As if answering his own question, he wondered if it was BJP president Amit Shah's son Jay or National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval's son Shaurya who was going to benefit if the session was delayed as the Opposition was expected to raise the issues concerning them in Parliament.
Jay and Shaurya have been under attack from the opposition party over reports of alleged irregularities.
"Issues of national importance are going to be debated in the session. (Delaying a session) helps those who do not want a debate," he said.
To a question related to pre-poll surveys being conducted ahead of the Gujarat election, Singhvi said his party's "internal survey" had indicated at "surprising results".
He, however, refused to specify numbers.
Singhvi claimed that there was a big resentment among the people of Gujarat which would work in the Congress' favour.
The 182-member Gujarat Assembly will go to the polls in two phases -- on December 9 and 14. The results will be declared on December 18.
