Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy on Wednesday assured Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to take action on a pending approval to the ordinance seeking mandatory registration of outsiders entering the state.

The state cabinet had sought the governor's nod to the ordinance on November 1.

The Chief Minister made a plea that time is of the essence. So I will have due regard to his words and will try to do it (take action on the proposal) as soon as possible, Roy told journalists after a meeting with the chief and his cabinet members.

Sangma and his cabinet also sought Roys approval to the proposal to impose administrators rule in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, whose successive executive committees collapsed twice within a month.

Sangma said that he had clarified to the governor that central rules and acts will remain and be applicable. "It is only that we want visitors to provide us information".

Asked, he said the ordinance will serve the same purpose as the Inner Line Permit.

"We are hopeful that the Governor will give his assent, the chief minister said.
