Meghalaya now has a much more effective Lokayukta bill: Sangma

Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today said the state has come up with a much more effective Lokayukta bill and the Selection Committee for Lokayukta has been constituted.
He said the rules that would govern as to how the government employees including the bureaucrats would have to submit their returns and declare their assets were in the final stage.
"We are almost in the final stage and the rules will have to be put up before the state Cabinet for its decision and deliberation," Mukul said while talking to reporters after a meeting with several prominent NGOs here demanding the appointment of a more effective Lokayukta in the state.

Informing that the selection committee, which would be looking at the appointment of a Lokayukta, has been already constituted, the Chief Minister said "The rules will be responsible in regulating the manner in which various government employees will have to submit their returns and asset declaration."
"The government has also decided to task the Personnel department with the job of receiving the returns and submission of assets declaration," he said.
Earlier the Chief Minister chaired a review meeting with the state level steering committee on International Terra Madre or the slow food festival - Mei Ramew - to be held in November this year here.

The global event was designed to project the state as the ultimate destination, leveraging upon the rich traditions and cultural heritage, he added.
