Mercury hovers around normal temp in Punjab, Haryana

The maximum temperature in several parts of Punjab and Haryana today stayed around levels normal for the season, even as rains lashed few places in both the states.
Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 39.5 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal, as per a MeT department report.
The city also witnessed rain of 0.5 mm, it said.
Hisar was the hottest place in Haryana with 44.1 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, while Karnal and Ambala recorded a high of 39.4 and 40.1 degrees Celsius, respectively.
In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a maximum temperature of 38.6 degree Celsius, a notch below normal, while Ludhiana and Patiala registered 39.2 and 40.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Ludhiana and Patiala recorded a rainfall of 7.2 mm and 0.9 mm, respectively.
The MeT department has predicted light rains or thundershowers accompanied with squall at isolated places in Haryana and Punjab in next 36 hours.
