Mercury plummets across HP amid widespread rains, hailstorm

The maximum temperatures dropped by five to six degrees across Himachal Pradesh amid widespread rains in the region while areas surrounding Shimla were lashed by hailstorm and heavy rains.
A severe hailstorm lashed the state capital and its surrounding areas followed by sharp rain showers, while several places in mid and lower hills were lashed by heavy rains.
Sri Nainadevi in Bilaspur district was wettest in the region with 60 mm rains, weather officials said.
Dharampur received 52 mm rains, followed by Banjar and Mandi (47 mm), Khadrala and Bijahi (46 mm), Rampur and Arki (42 mm), Kotkhai (35 mm), Aghar (30 mm), Pandoh and Mashobra (29 mm), Jubbal (24 mm), Rohru (23 mm), Pachhad (22 mm), Kumarsain (21 mm), Kandaghat and Bangana (20 mm), Renuka and Kasauli (19 mm), Baijnath (18 mm), Ghumarwin and Sundernagar (17 mm), Una and Shimla (16 mm) and Nurpur (15 mm), they said.
Minimum temperature dropped to 7.2 degrees Celsius at Kalpa while Manali and Keylong recorded a low of 8.0 and 8.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Shimla (10.3), Solan and Palampur (15), Bhuntar (15.5), Nahan (15.9), Sundernagar (17.4), Una (17.7) and Dharamsala (18.8).
Una was hottest in the region with a high of 31.6 degreed Celsius against 38.5 degrees Celsius yesterday, while mercury dropped by five notches to stay at 29.4 degrees Celsius at Dharamsala and 29 degrees Celsius at Sundernagar, followed by Bhuntar (27.8), Nahan (27.2), Solan (26.2), Manali (24.6), Shimla (22.4) and Kalpa (18).
The local MeT office has predicted rains or thunder showers at isolated places in lower and mid hills and rains or snow at Higher hills at tomorrow and dry weather in the region from June 2 onwards.
