The project-affected people (PAPs) of Metro rail and Monorail projects in the city today alleged inordinate delay in their rehabilitation and warned to forcibly take possession of the flats constructed by the authorities for them.
Addressing a press conference here today, a group of PAPs said at least 561 hutments in various areas including, Ghatkopar and Andheri, had been removed for these projects and flats for their rehabilitation have been constructed at Nahur in the city years back.
"Injustice is being meted out to us. Hundreds of PAPs had been issued provisional allotment letters by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) in 2007-08. However, so far we have not been given the possession letters and keys for the flats," president of Railway Zopadpatti Punarvasan Samiti, Changdev Wankhede, said.
"Due to the callous approach of MMRDA and other agencies, thousands of affected people have become homeless. Therefore, we warn the government that if we are not given the possession before Ganeshotsav, then we would go ahead and start living there," he warned.
One of the project affected, Sujata Mhadik (35), claimed that she lost her shelter near Sion-Koliwada for the Monorail project in 2007.
When contacted, spokesperson of MMRDA Dilip Kawathkar, said he would comment on the issue after going through the details of the case.
