The capital city of India, New Delhi, has bagged the number one spot as the most preferred Indian destination for overseas travellers, followed by the metropolitan city of Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and the financial capital of the country, Mumbai, respectively, according to Hotel Price Index (HPI) by Hotels.Com.
Other popular destinations for travellers included India's cultural hub Kolkata (West Bengal), Bengaluru (Karnataka), Hyderabad (Telengana) and Pune in Maharashtra occupying the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth positions, respectively.
Kochi in Kerala moved out of the top 10 preferred destinations, making way for Ahmedabad in Gujarat as the new emerging destination preferred by international tourists occupying the ninth spot.
Meanwhile, Indian travelling overseas in the first half of 2016, preferred Bangkok in Thailand followed by New York in US, Las Vegas (US), Pattaya and Phuket (Thailand).
The top ten list also featured Barcelona in Spain, Guangzhou (China), Jakarta (Indonesia), Madrid (Spain) and Cape Town in South Africa.
