Led by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the top brass of the Home Ministry briefed the Prime Minister on issues ranging from terrorism, infiltration from across the border, activities of left wing extremism, situation in Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast during the three-hour-long meeting.
Sources said the Prime Minister reviewed the steps taken to strengthen the internal security situation in the country and how to improve them further.
The multi-pronged strategy include anti-militancy operations in different theatres, peace talks with some insurgent groups and development initiatives in Naxal-hit states, the Prime Minister was told, the sources said.
All these issues were discussed at the DGPs conference held in Kutch in December 2015 and the Prime Minister took stock of their progress, sources said.
Besides the Home Minister, his two deputies -- Kiren Rijiju and Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary -- and Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi were present at the meeting.
Today's initiative was part of the review of the performance of various ministries undertaken by the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister reviewed the performance of all social sector and infrastructure Ministries yesterday to ascertain whether budgetary allocations have been spent wisely.
