Officials said it is part of an effort to make course curricula flexible through courses earning micro-credits.
Students will have the option to select these courses as electives.
Micro-credits can be earned by attending lectures or working on design and laboratory components, officials said.
The duration of such micro-credit courses will be 3-14 days including 12 hours of lecture or 10 hours of lecture and 5 hours of design or 15 hours of design and laboratory component.
Eminent visiting expert, to be denoted as adjunct or visiting faculty, from academic institutions, industry or research organisations will get associated with a faculty member from IIT Kharagpur to teach in these courses.
Last year the institute had introduced the flexibility of micro-specialisations wherein students could opt for courses in departments other than their own.
