Bollywood singer Mika Singh was today arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly slapping a doctor at a concert in south west Delhi in April.
Police said the singer was called to the Inderpuri police station in connection with the assault on Shrikant, an ophthalmologist posted at Ambedkar Hospital, and later arrested.
"He came to Inderpuri police station after a notice was served where he was arrested," a senior officer told PTI, adding the singer was later released on bail as he had been booked under bailable sections.
The incident had taken place on April 11 at a concert organised by the Delhi Ophthalmological Society (DOS) at the Delhi Pusa Institute Mela Ground in Inderpuri.
Delhi Police had registered a case of causing hurt and wrongful restraint against Mika, who turned 38 yesterday, after a video of the alleged incident had gone viral on the social media.
The victim had suffered some internal injury in the left ear due, police said.
"While performing, Mika had called some from the audience on stage for an activity. During the activity, something done by the doctor irked Mika who then slapped him and handed him to the bouncers," said a police official.
Soon after the incident, the victim's colleagues created a ruckus at the venue but police immediately intervened and promised action against Mika following which an FIR was filed.
Mika had then defended himself claiming the guy was drunk and causing disruption.
