Minimum temp rise in Valley

Amid predictions of widespread rains or snowfall in Kashmir, the minimum temperature across the division, including Ladakh region, appreciated today, providing relief to the residents from the cold conditions.
The mercury in Srinagar jumped over two degrees from the minimum of 3.9 degrees Celsius yesterday to settle at 6.2 degrees Celsius today, a MeT Department spokesman said.
The minimum temperature in Gulmarg, the famous ski-resort in north Kashmir settled at minus 0.8 degree Celsius - over a degree up from minus 1.6 degrees Celsius yesterday, he said.
The mercury in Pahalgam hill resort in south, which serves as the base camp for the annual Amarnath yatra, settled at a low of 2.2 degrees Celsius - an increase of nearly two degrees from 0.6 degree Celsius yesterday, the spokesman said.
Minimum in Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway settled at 2.6 degrees Celsius - same as the previous night.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, registered minimum at 5 degrees Celsius - up by two degrees from 3 degrees Celsius yesterday.
The mercury in Kupwara, in north Kashmir, went up slightly to settle at 1.9 degrees Celsius, the spokesman said. Leh, the frontier town in Ladakh region, recorded the minimum temperature of minus 3.3 degrees Celsius - up from the previous night's minus 5.8 degrees Celsius.
The nearby Kargil town recorded the lowest in the state at minus 3.8 degrees Celsius - up by four degrees from the previous night's minus 8.0 degrees Celsius.
There are chances of light rain and snow at isolated places over the state today, while widespread rains or snow would occur from tomorrow onwards, the MeT department said.
