"We have classified the alleged rape of a 9-year-old at Jatni as a Red Flag Case. We are trying our best to file the charge sheet in the court within ten days," Commissioner of Police R P Sharma told reporters after visiting the Capital Hospital where the victim girl was undergoing treatment after the alleged rape incident on the night of January 20.
The girl was lifted from her house at Loco Colony at Jatni, about 20 km from here by the accused person when her daily labourer parents were asleep.
Asked about the significance of the Red Flag Case, Sharma said the investigation would be closely monitored.
According to a circular issued by the then Director General of Police Sanjeev Marik on September 24, 2014, soon after the filing of the charge sheet, one officer would be appointed as the "Holding IO (investigating officer)" of a Red Flag Case.
"It will be the duty of the Holding IO to monitor developments in the court of law and intimate the same concerned IIC of the police station, SDPO and district SP," the circular said.
