The former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader had tweeted yesterday about his visit today to Batla House to meet Mehrunnisa (72).
A few days back, the woman's stepson and his accomplices had allegedly opened indiscriminate fire when former Congress MLA Asif Muhammad Khan had come to meet her. The woman's stepson was arrested in the case.
Police said after Mishra's tweet, messages were sent to the residents of the area through WhatsApp and social media platforms, claiming that backed by "right-wing" political parties, the former Delhi water minister had a plan to trigger tension in the area.
The sources of the messages could not immediately be ascertained.
Mishra, however, claimed that they were circulated by AAP MLA from Okhla Amanatullah Khan.
Khan denied the allegation saying Mishra did not turn up as Mehrunissa "refused to meet him".
Mishra was requested by the police to stop at a barricade near New Friends Colony around 3 pm.
However, as he insisted to go to Batla House, he was subsequently detained and taken to the CR Park police station.
Mishra was let off at around 4 pm, the police said.
