"Jadon has gone home. Dortmund has requested that he's headed back to Germany, which is obviously a disappointment in terms of tournament," England head coach Steve Cooper said on the eve of their pre-quarterfinal against Japan.
After scoring twice in the opening 4-0 win over Chile, Sancho scored his third of the tournament from the penalty spot in the 3-2 victory over Mexico to seal their pre- quarterfinal berth.
Sancho had rejected 30,000 pounds a week offer from Manchester City to join Dortmund in a projected 10 million pound deal this summer and was handed Ousmane Dembele's No 7 upon his arrival and was promised that he would be part of their first-team set-up.
"A little bit disappointing to see him go back home. I can only imagine Dortmund get him back to play for the first team. because I cant think of any other reason to take a player away from a World Cup," Cooper seemed a bit sad.
"We look forward not back... It is not about one player. England are always about the team. I'm sorry to repeat myself but every player of our roster is worthy of playing for England and making a difference.
"The spirit is excellent and we are strong and excited to play the knockout tomorrow. We all are looking forward to the match.
