MLC Haribhau Rathod today said the Maharashtra Public Service Commission's (MPSC's) decision to not consider backward class candidates for open category posts has affected many women aspirants of government jobs from backward communities.

Rathod today held a protest over the issue outside the Vidhan Bhavan complex in Nagpur.

"Many women candidates from the SC-ST and OBC categories are facing injustice since the last four years due to the order of the MPSC," he claimed.

Rathod said Maharashtra was the first state to grant 30 per cent reservation to women in government jobs.

"Similarly, provisions for reservation for backward class candidates was also made in this 30 per cent quota. However, the MPSC through its order dated September 23, 2014 said that backward class candidates will not be considered for the open category posts," the MLC said.

He claimed that many women candidates from backward class who had applied for MPSC jobs and cleared the examination have not been appointed because they do not belonged to open category.

The cases of many such women job aspirants are pending before the high court.

"I will raise this issue in the legislative council," Rathod said.

The monsoon session of the state legislature is currently underway in Nagpur.
