Targeting Rahul Gandhi, BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today asked if the Congress vice president planned to guard the country's resources by allying with scam-tainted leaders, and attacked Lalu Prasad for siding with a party promoting animal slaughter.
Referring to Gandhi, he said the 'shehzada' had said that the country needed its 1.25 crore people to act as watchmen guarding its resources, but was himself relying on tainted leaders.
"And, what are the people with whom you have allied? Can they be trusted? The people with whom the Congress has allied, have just come out of jail," he said apparently referring to Prasad who was convicted in a fodder scam case and was on bail.
Modi said that Gandhi's watchmen would be Ashok Chavan, whose name had figured in the Adarsh scam and Prasad.
"Will these be the watchmen with which you will guard the country?" Modi asked at an election meeting at Jhumartaliya in Jharkhand's Koderma district.
The Gujarat Chief Minister said that he had not yet seen a cat, who could be trusted with guarding milk.
Recalling former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi's famous quote on central funds that only 15 paise of a rupee reached the people, Modi took a swipe at Congress's symbol.
"It's the wonder of the hand," he said.
At Nawada in Bihar, he continued the attack on Gandhi, saying "Shahzada is saying that he has a roadmap for development of the country. When this took so much time to come to your mind it will take another 600 years to come true."
Modi described himself as 'sewak' (servant of people) and a not 'sasahak' (ruler).
