Alleging that there are bogus names in voters' lists across Madhya Pradesh, the Congress today said as per the electoral roll of a constituency in Bhopal, 119 'voters' are living under one roof.
The opposition party demanded that the Election Commission weed out bogus voters by conducting a special drive.
"Bogus voters were introduced in lists with the help of government officials in at least 15 districts. We have lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer and sought a drive to weed out bogus names," state Congress general secretary Dr Mahendra Singh Chouhan said here.
"This (inclusion of bogus voters in electoral rolls) was done to derail a fair and proper election," he alleged.
In Narela Assembly constituency in Bhopal, the number of voters has risen to 3.20 lakh from 1.88 lakh in 2008, he said.
"In Shankaracharya Nagar in Narela, 48 voters of different castes are registered at house number 1022, a 600 sq ft house. After an actual survey of 200 houses in the constituency, we also found that 119 voters are registered at an I-type house (a category of government quarters) of the jail department," Chouhan alleged.
Further, 98 voters are ostensibly residents of a single house in Aman Colony, while another house in the locality has 48 voters, the Congress leader said.
In Mahamai Ka Bagh, 52 voters are registered in one house, while three houses in the Old Subhash Nagar Colony have 75, 96 and 83 voters, respectively, as per the electoral rolls, he said.
In Ashoka Garden, 98 voters are registered at house number two while 103 voters are registered at house number three in Ektapuri, Chouhan said.
Bogus voters were introduced in electoral rolls in view of Assembly elections which are due next year, he alleged, claiming that it was done for the benefit of a "particular party".
