Delhi Government today accused the three BJP-ruled municipal corporations of not cooperating with it to keeping the city clean and said epidemic may break out in certain areas if things do not improve.
Delhi PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan said all the three municipal corporations were not allowing dumping of silt taken out by PWD in their landfill sites which may result in break-out of an epidemic in certain areas.
"Their reluctance in allowing dumping of silt taken out by PWD in their landfill sites may result in break-out of an epidemic causing loss of lives of poor and under-privileged people putting up in JJ clusters and rehabilitation colonies," he said.
"The corporations have been making claim that their dumping sites are only for their works. It means they are avoiding basic responsibility of keeping Delhi clean," he said.
He said the silt taken out from the drains on various roads may lead to breading of mosquitoes which can cause break-out of diseases like Dengue, Malaria and other air-borne diseases.
"Despite refusal by one of the MCDs, the PWD under Delhi Government completed dumping of total 5,47,198 metric tonnes of silt taken out from various drains," he said.
He also slammed the municipal corporation for putting the blame on PWD for the widespread water logging in the city on Saturday following the heavy downpour.
"The corporations have no locus-standi in saying that the PWD has not at all cleaned drains. The PWD took the work of de-silting out of all drains as a challenge and it was accomplished in true spirit," Chouhan said.
"The dilapidated roads under three corporations are enough to reflect the state-of-affairs in the corporations. Out of total road length of 33.198 KMs in Delhi, the PWD has controlled over only 1,252 km road length," he said.
