Must not negotiate with Taliban: Shia group

A leading political group for the Shia community in Pakistan today said that there should not be any negotiations with the Taliban as it would only result in more terror attacks.
Majlis-e-Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen chief Nasir Abbas Jafari said that talks with the Taliban would be like having talks with the devil.
"There should be no talks with the Taliban...We will always support the oppressed," Jafari said.
He said that negotiations with militants will only result in more terror attacks and more corpses to bury.
When speaking about the security situation in the month of Muharram, another top leader of the group Allama Ameen Shahidi said that there have always been dangers.

He said that attempts to stifle the 'Ulema' and threats to stop processions during Muharram are being received by them.

Sectarian tensions have plagued Pakistan substantially during the past few years with an escalation in attacks against the country's Shia Muslim minority community.
Jafari also criticised the judiciary for focusing on high-profile cases and ignoring those of the poor and helpless.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Ulema Council Pakistan Allama Tahir Ashrafi emphasised today that the Taliban should be negotiated with and the talks be supervised by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Ashrafi, who hails from the Deobandi group of the Sunni community, was addressing the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Conference in Multan when he said talks should happen within the parameters of the constitution.

He demanded an immediate end to US drone attacks on Pakistan's territory.
