Seventy-five people onboard North Korea's national carrier Air Koryo had a lucky escape today when a fire broke out mid-air forcing the plane to land in China's northeastern city of Shenyang.
The JS151 flight, en route from the North Korean capital of Pyongyang to Beijing, made a safe landing at Shenyang airport at 8:50 AM. No one onboard was injured, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Smoke was seen from a compartment when the Russian made Tupolev Tu-204 plane, with 60 passengers and 15 crew aboard, landed at the airport.
The cabin was filled with smoke around 30 minutes after the flight left Pyongyang and passengers were forced to use oxygen masks, Xinhua quoted a passenger as saying.
The airport authority immediately dispatched a team to help check the plane.
The passengers were transferred to another flight to Beijing and the North Korean plane remains at the airport.
No details on the cause of the incident have been released yet.
