Nair, Ezhava outfits intensifies attack on UDF govt

Nair Service Society and Sreenarayna Dharmaparipalana Yogam, two influential outfits of the Nair and Ezhava communities in Kerala, today intensified their attack on the Congress-led UDF government.
The immediate provocation for them was a resolution passed recently by the Alappuzha DCC severely criticising the leadership of the outfits.
Already on collision course with the Oommen Chandy Government over a host of issues, the leaders of the two organisations sought to know from the Congress leadership whether they stood by the DCC resolution or not.
A meeting of the SNDP leaders held at Cherthala in Alappuzha came down heavily on Alappuzha DCC president A A Shukkoor and maintained that the organisation would lodge a complaint with Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

After the meeting, SNDP general secretary Vellapally Natesan told reporters that the Congress would have to suffer the consequences in the coming Lok Sabha polls for running down community outfits.
Natesan said SNDP nominees had given him letters of their resignation from the boards and corporations and a decision whether to press on them or not would be taken after the Congress stand was known.

In a separate statement, NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair also called upon the NSS nominees on boards and corporations to resign.
The DCC passed the resolution against Nair and Natesan in the wake of their strident criticism of KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala. What provoked them was certain "personal references" against them in the resolution.

Reacting to today's development, Shukkoor said he still stood by the DCC resolution which was "based on realities".
Nair specifically asked Travancore Devaswom Board president M V Govindan Nair and Kerala Forest Development Corporation chairman Manoharan Pillai to spell out their stand on the demand of the Nair community outfit. If they want to continue in their posts, they should have to resign their membership of the NSS, he said.
Apparently setting a model for others to follow, Nair's daughter Dr Sujatha resigned from the syndicate of the MG University.
