To be directed by Julius Onah, the film also features Kelvin Harrison Jr.
The script has been written by Onah and JC Lee with John Baker, Onah, and Andrew Yang producing the project, reported Variety.
The story is about an African teenager and a former child soldier living with his adoptive family. Spencer will play the role of a teacher in the film.
The shooting for the project has already commenced in New York.
