A national conference of top Income Tax department and CBDT officials will be held here later this month to discuss host of issues related to the direct taxes regime including challenges on the black money and tax evasion front.
The two-day conference, on May 25-26, is expected to be inaugurated by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and will be attended by the Principal Chief Commissioners, Chief Commissioners, Principal Director Generals and DGs of I-T and the top brass of the Central Board of Direct Taxes, the apex policy making body of the tax department.
"The annual conference is being held after the department recently concluded its large scale cadre restructuring. The new arrangements brought as a result of these changes and other issues related to direct taxes are expected to be discussed," a senior I-T department official said.
"Issues of black money generation and its curbing would also be taken up," the official added.
The announcements and amendments made in the recent Budget are also expected to be discussed during the conference even as the department will showcase achievements made in the last fiscal vis-a-vis enhancement of taxpayer services.
A special session on technology upgrade and automisation in the department is also being planned to be made during the event.
Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha is expected to deliver the valedictory speech at the conclusion of the brainstorming sessions which include subjects of illegal funds stashed abroad, non-adversarial tax regime and methods to increase tax base in the country.
