Ruling National Conference (NC) today assailed BJP for raking up "frivolous issues" including Article 370 with malicious intent of polarising society ahead of the 2014 elections.
"BJP is raking up frivolous issues. It has become a trait of the BJP to raise the 'mandir' (temple) issue and revocation of Article 370 only during election times in a bid to hoodwink public opinion and incite passions," Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra said at a meeting in Trilokpur Santra Morh.
"BJP should remember that their tactics will not succeed in a state like Jammu and Kashmir," he said.
Remembering the Sher-e-Kashmri and former chief minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah who brought together the people of different faiths and regions, he said this spirit will continue to guide the people of the state.
The Minister for Planning and Development urged people to remain vigilant against machinations of parties like BJP and PDP, whose main agenda is to polarise the situation and benefit from division in the society.
Stating that this was their main plank for elections, Sadhotra lambasted the PDP and BJP for exploiting the sentiments of innocent people for their petty political gains.
On the development scenario, the minister said Jammu and Kashmir has come a long way toward inclusive development in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh due to the revolutionary measures taken under the stewardship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The Minister enumerated measures, including the strengthening of Accountability Commission, initiated to combat corruption and bringing transparency in the functioning of administration.
Sadhotra exhorted the people to benefit from various schemes launched for their economic emancipation.
