The NC and Youth National Conference workers took out a protest march from party headquarters at Zero Bridge and burnt an effigy of Ganga outside TRC here.
The protest rally was led by party's district unit president Peer Afaq and Youth NC provincial president Salman Ali Sagar.
The NC workers tried to march towards commercial hub of Lal Chowk but were interrupted by a heavy contingent of police.
Youth NC leader Salman Sagar, demanding Ganga's resignation, said it is highly shameful that no one from the government or from PDP has spoken against such rabid comments.
"It shows the seriousness and the priorities of this government," he said.
"The whole Valley is going through a very volatile phase. Instead of deescalating the situation, every effort is being made to escalate the situation in Kashmir," he alleged.
