This is the second time the party is holding a national convention in Gujarat. Earlier it had held a convention at Surat.

NCP has three MLAs in the Gujarat Assembly, the election to which is due by year-end.

Maharashtra NCP spokesman Madan Bafna said here leaders from across the country will participate in the event.

On NCP leader and Maharashtra Water Supply Minister Laxman Dhoble's controversial comment about rape, Bafna said the party had asked him to desist from making such comments in future but had not asked for his resignation.

Dhoble had said taking out protest rallies against rape was wastage of time.
