Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party will organise a convention against demonetisation here on January 9 to protest against note ban which has caused a "havoc" to the common man.
Party general secretary Tariq Anwar told reporters that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has "failed" to take the nation into confidence on how much black money was unearthed and how the move helped in detecting counterfeit currency.
He lamented that the suffering of people due to demonetisation was continuing despite the Prime Minister's promise of normalising the situation within 50 days.
He regretted that despite demonetisation causing "havoc" in the lives of people, Modi "did not address to their grievances" in his televised speech on December 31.
Anwar said a meeting of the Working Committee of the party is scheduled on January 10 to deliberate on the strategy in five poll-bound states including Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
He announced the appointment of local party leader Ramesh Gupta as President of the Delhi unit.
Gupta has been appointed ahead of the Municipal Elections in the national capital in which the party has plans to contest all the 272 seats. At present, the Municipal Corporations in Delhi are controlled by the BJP.
