National Defence Academy (NDA), where armed forces' cadets undergo pre-commissioning training, today organised a one-day awareness camp at Sainik School in Kapurthala to promote students to pursue a career in the services.
More than 1,000 students, including 200 girls, of various government and private schools in the district attended the camp.
Inaugurating the camp, Major General Binnoy Poonen, Chief of Staff Headquarters 11 corps and chairman of local board of administration, spoke on various opportunities and quality of life in the armed forces.
Putting the NDA in Pune together with the Sandhurst Military Academy, United Kingdom, he claimed that India's training academies are among the bests in the world.
The Major General also lauded the efforts of Sainik School Kapurthala's authorities for organising the camp to inspire the students belonging to rural and urban belts for a career in forces.
School Principal Colonel Sudhanshu Arya gave a presentation, highlighting eligibility criteria and various modes of entry into the NDA and procedure of admission in the sainik schools in the country.
He equated the life of an Army officer to that of an IAS officer.
Short movies on training and infrastructure in NDA at Khadakwasla in Pune and Sainik School Kapurthala were also screened in the school auditorium, unveiling various facets of the forces.
An interactive question-answer session was held to clarify doubts of the aspirants. An exhibition of various small types of arms, rocket launchers and armoury used by the infantry units was also organised on the occasion.
Sainik school Kapurthala is a pioneer institution in the chain of 25 sainik schools being run by Ministry of Defence in the country.
