NDMC official alleges manhandling by BJP leader

A senior NDMC official has alleged that he was manhandled by the civic body Vice Chairman Karan Singh Tanwar when he refused to stop an eviction drive.
While Tanwar, a BJP leader has denied the charges, police officials say they are awaiting a formal complaint from the aggrieved official.
Neeraj Bharti, Director of NDMC's Enforcement Department alleged that Tanwar had manhandled him on Thursday evening in his office.
"On Thursday, he called me to his office and asked me to halt an ongoing drive against squatters in Sarojini Nagar. I told him these are policy decisions and I cannot take them alone. About 25 people, including some of the squatters forcefully confined me in the room for over 15 minutes," Bharti alleged.

The official then sent a complaint to NDMC chairman Naresh Kumar and Connaught Place police station.
Tanwar, when contacted, rubbished the allegations as baseless.

"These are baseless allegations that I manhandled him or misbehaved with him. A group of vendors came to me claiming that they have been evicted despite having permits. I had called Bharti to ask him to only evict the unauthorised vendors, but he refused and threatened me instead," Tanwar said.
The police, however denied receiving any complaint from Bharti, adding that they got a copy of a letter which Bharti had written to the Commissioner raising the matter.

"On receiving the copy, the police contacted Bharti and asked him what he wanted, to which he replied that he wanted the police to be informed about what had happened," the official said.
"Then we contacted him again asking to file a formal police complaint, to which he has not responded yet. An FIR under relevant sections of the law can be registered when he approaches the police with a formal complaint," he added.
