With many areas in the city getting inundated due to heavy rains since midnight last night, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other personnel carried out relief works.
Malkajgiri, Kapra, Uppal and several other residential areas were inundated and normal life was thrown out of gear following the downpour.
Hyderabad district received 9 cms of rainfall, the IMD (India Meteorological Department) said in its Daily Weather Report of Telangana state as per the data available this morning.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) said in a release that Uppal, Malkajgiri and Keesara received 11.10 cms, 10.7 cms and 17.4 cms rainfall, respectively.
Residents complained that they could not sleep since late last night as water entered their homes. Water in the drainages overflowed onto the roads and homes, some of them alleged. Thick foam appeared on some water bodies.
Serilingampally MLA Arikepudi Gandhi, who visited affected localities, said a permanent solution needs to be found as some of the houses were built in violation of rules.
GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy and other officials coordinated the relief works sine early morning among the personnel belonging to Fire Services, electricity and others, the release said.
Twenty NDRF personnel carried out relief works with two boats, it said.
The inundation was due to sudden cloud burst and encroachments on the drainage systems, the release said.
Water and food was provided to the needy citizens and effort was made to minimise inconvenience to people, it said, adding that 273 complaints have been received with many of them being addressed.
Thunderstorm, associated with heavy rain, is "very likely to occur" at isolated places in all the districts of Telangana, the IMD said in its Weather Warning for today.
Thunderstorm is very likely to occur at isolated places in all the districts of Telangana tomorrow, it said.
