Malkajgiri, Kapra, Uppal and several other residential areas were inundated and normal life was thrown out of gear following the downpour.
Hyderabad district received 9 cms of rainfall, the IMD (India Meteorological Department) said in its Daily Weather Report of Telangana state as per the data available this morning.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) said in a release that Uppal, Malkajgiri and Keesara received 11.10 cms, 10.7 cms and 17.4 cms rainfall, respectively.
Serilingampally MLA Arikepudi Gandhi, who visited affected localities, said a permanent solution needs to be found as some of the houses were built in violation of rules.
GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy and other officials coordinated the relief works sine early morning among the personnel belonging to Fire Services, electricity and others, the release said.
Twenty NDRF personnel carried out relief works with two boats, it said.
Water and food was provided to the needy citizens and effort was made to minimise inconvenience to people, it said, adding that 273 complaints have been received with many of them being addressed.
Thunderstorm, associated with heavy rain, is "very likely to occur" at isolated places in all the districts of Telangana, the IMD said in its Weather Warning for today.
