Kerala on Friday said the Nepal government should conduct a detailed probe into the deaths of eight Malayalee tourists, including four children, at a resort in the Himalayan nation and wanted their families to get adequate compensation.
During a meeting with MPs from the state, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan urged them to intervene and ensure that the two families of the deceased tourists were adequately compensated.
"The Nepal government should conduct a detailed probe for which the central government should intervene," a press release from the Chief Minister's office said.
The state government had written to the External Affairs minister S Jaishankar, Vijayan said, adding he would once again write to the union minister on the matter.
The eight Keralites, hailing from Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode districts, had died on Tuesday following possible asphyxiation in their room at a mountainous resort in Nepal.
Praveen Krishnan Nair, an IT professional from Dubai, his wife and three children and Ranjit, also a software engineer, his wife and a son had died in the resort.
