A 27-year-old Nepali national was arrested from Nehru Place here for allegedly supplying fake Indian currency notes (FICNs) smuggled from Pakistan through India-Nepal border, police said on Monday.

Counterfeit notes of Rs 2,000 denomination with a total face value of Rs 5.50 lakh have been seized from Aslam Ansari, a resident of Parsa district in Nepal, they said.

On getting information that a Nepali national would reach Nehru Place Bus terminal to deliver the fake notes to his contacts, police laid a trap and arrested the accused around 3 pm, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Kumar Kushwah said.

"High quality FICNs of Rs 2,000 denomination with a total face value of Rs 5.50 lakh were seized from him," the officer said.

Interrogation revealed that Ansari came to India around seven years ago and has been supplying fake notes for the last five years. He used to receive counterfeit currencies from Nepali nationals Abdul Rehman, Sajjad and Sher Mohammad, Kushwah said.

Ansari used to supply the fake notes in India through other members of this syndicate as well who are residents of Raxaul in Bihar. He has already supplied FICN with face value around Rs one crore in the last one year, the DCP said.
