"I am delighted to announce a new scheme for our weavers - 'Baristha Bunakar Sahayata Yojana'," Patnaik said at a function on the occasion of the National Handloom Day.
Under the scheme, a pension amount of Rs 500 per month would be credited to the bank account of handloom weavers who have been in the trade for more than 20 years and above the age of 60 years and Rs 700 for weavers above 80 years.
The money would be directly credited to their bank accounts, he said.
Patnaik said the state government was committed to the welfare of the handloom weavers in the state and a number of steps had been taken to elevate their status.
