"The government has reposed faith in me and my priority will be to maintain law and order, brotherhood, communal harmony and peace in the state," Arora said.
Arora, a 1982-batch IPS officer, today replaced DGP Sumedh Saini. Punjab government today shunted out Saini in the wake of protests against the incidents of desecration of Sikh holy books.
"Impartial, fair and transparent investigation will be conducted," Arora said here while addressing media this evening.
Noting that Punjab was going though "difficult" time, the DGP said he will deal with the current situation seriously.
"I will visit all the districts starting from Amritsar tomorrow and meet people to understand their grievances," he said while seeking cooperation from people in handling the current situation.
On the formation of SIT to probe the alleged sacrilege incidents, Arora said he would meet SIT head (IPS Sahota) shortly in this regard.
The new DGP refused to comment on the claims of involvement of "foreign hand" in the desecration acts.
