A long time demand was fulfilled, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said after flagging off the train through video conferencing from here.
The Manwara-Sangam inter-city express will run five days in a week and will connect Ayodhya and Faizabad along the route.
Uttar Pradesh is a large and populous state and thus seamless rail connectivity among all the districts in the state has always been in demand by the people of UP, Prabhu said.
He said that Allahabad and Ayodhya are religious places and the new train connectivity between Allahabad and Basti will also facilitate lakhs and lakhs of pilgrims to reach these religious places.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said railways has launched several new train services and other initiatives in the state recently.
